​Corporate Profile

Eletrobras (Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A.) is an open capital company controlled by the Brazilian government, which operates in the areas of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. With shares traded on the stock exchanges of São Paulo, New York, and Madrid, and focus on profitability, competitiveness, integration and sustainability, the company controls 14 subsidiaries - Eletrobras Furnas, Eletrobras Chesf, Eletrobras Eletronorte, Eletrobras Eletrosul Eletrobras Eletronuclear, Eletrobras CGTEE, Eletrobras Amazonas Geração e Transmissão, Eletrobras Distribuição Amazonas, Eletrobras Distribuição Roraima, Eletrobras Distribuição Alagoas, Eletrobras Distribuição Piauí, Eletrobras Distribuição Rondônia, Eletroacre and CELG Distribuição (CELG-D), a holding company (Eletrobras Eletropar), a research center (Cepel) and it also holds 50% of Itaipu Binacional, on behalf of the government.
 
The generating capacity of Eletrobras, including half the power of Itaipu belonging to the Brazilian government, reaches 46,016 MW, which corresponds to 32% of the total generating capacity of the country. This energy is produced by 29 hydroelectric plants, 20 thermoelectric plants, six wind-powered plants, two thermonuclear plants and one solar, and new projects are expected to be lauched such as hydroelectric plants Jirau (3,750 MW, of which 3,150 are already in operation) and Santo Antonio (3568.3 MW of which 3,150.4 MW are already in operation), the Rio Madeira and the Angra 3 thermonuclear plant (1,405 MW, with operation expected in 2022).

Eletrobras has 69,146 kilometers of transmission lines, accounting for 47% of total above 230 kV lines that crisscross Brazil. And 51 new transmission lines, with associated substations, are being built by companies in the system, in full ownership or in partnership with private companies.

Eletrobras is also seeking investment opportunities in electricity, both in generation and transmission, in several other countries. After 54 years, the company is listed on the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE Bovespa), which brings together companies with shares on the São Paulo Stock Exchange with the best practices in corporate citizenship; the DJSI Emerging Markets index (Dow Jones Sustainability indices) of the New York Stock Exchange and is seeking listing on the Dow Jones sustainability Index (DJSI), of the New York Stock Exchange.
