​Corporate Profile

Eletrobras (Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A.) is an open capital company controlled by the Brazilian government, which operates in the areas of generation, transmission and distribution of electricity. With shares traded on the stock exchanges of São Paulo, New York, and Madrid, and focus on profitability, competitiveness, integration and sustainability, the company controls 14 subsidiaries - Eletrobras Furnas, Eletrobras Chesf, Eletrobras Eletronorte, Eletrobras Eletrosul Eletrobras Eletronuclear, Eletrobras CGTEE, Eletrobras Amazonas Geração e Transmissão, Eletrobras Distribuição Amazonas, Eletrobras Distribuição Roraima, Eletrobras Distribuição Alagoas, Eletrobras Distribuição Piauí, Eletrobras Distribuição Rondônia and Eletroacre, a holding company (Eletrobras Eletropar), a research center (Cepel) and it also holds 50% of Itaipu Binacional, on behalf of the government.

The total installed capacity of Eletrobras, including half of Itaipu's power owned by the Brazilian government, is 46,856 MW, which corresponds to approximately 31% of the country's total generation capacity in 2016, which was 150,338 MW. Cosidering the Company's total installed capacity, 69% are corporate, 14% are owned by Special Purpose Companies (SPEs) and 17% are jointly owned enterprises, including half the capacity of Itaipu Binacional (7,000 MW), which represents 15% of the total.

As of December 31, 2016, the transmission lines of Eletrobras companies reached a total of approximately 70,201 km. Of this total, (i) 6,545 km are corporate; (Ii) 57,027 km are corporate Under O&M Regime; (Iii) 6,629 km correspond to the proportion of its shareholdings in through Special Purpose Companies. Considering only the basic grid of the National Interconnected System, the voltages of 750, ± 600, 525/500, 345 and 230 kV, the Company is responsible for 63,387 Km of transmission lines, representing about 47% of the Total transmission lines in Brazil.

At age 54, the company is listed in the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE Bovespa), which considers the companies listed at São Paulo Stock Exchange with the best practices in corporate citizenship; In the New York Stock Exchange's DJSI Dow Jones Emerging Markets; and is seeking the listing in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), the sustainability index of the New York Stock Exchange.
